Vishwnath M. Palnitkar was born in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. He graduated from the JJ School of Arts in 1949. He established Pratibha Advertising in 1953, which went on to become India's number 01 advertising agency in 1973, with offices in Mumbai, Bengaluru, New Delhi and Pune. A trendsetter in its times Pratibha Advertising handled the portfolios of some of the big names in Indian commerce including Bajaj, Camel, LIC, Finolex, Bank of Maharashtra & Kirloskar. Mr. V. M. Palnitkar also started an interior design firm 'Indecor' in Pune. An avid landscape painter, he also picked out everyday scenes (a bustling temple square in Pune or the fisherwomen of Koliwada, Mumabi) as the subjects for his paintings. He was a guide and mentor to his family, staff and friends. He died in 1999 in Pune, Maharashtra.
