The Indian New Year marks the beginning of a 'new era'. The lunisolar calendar begins on 'Chaitra Shudha Padayami'  or the first day of the bright half of the Indian month of Chaitra. The start of the New Year is based on  lunar calculations. It starts on the first new moon after Sun crosses the equator from South to North on Spring Equinox. 

These colouful 'lunisolar' calendars' are unlike the typical Gregorian one. They are made up of unique properties.The day starts at sunrise and each month is divided in to two sets to depict the cycle of the moon from the new moon till the full moon. The end of the lunar month coincides with a new moon. Hence there is no running number from the first to the last day of the month. The Art Library by 'Itkila' currently has 04 artists in its catalog. Each artist has his/ her own unique style and choice of subjects. The mediums include watercolours, acrylics, and oil.

Prasad

Prasad comes from a small coastal hamlet in Maharashtra. Although Prasad has no formal training in art he was mentored by artist Uday Palnitkar for a year and a half. His work reflects a great eye for detail and his brush strokes show depth and  maturity.

Vishwanath M. Palnitkar

Vishwnath M. Palnitkar was born in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. He graduated from the JJ School of Arts in 1949. He established Pratibha Advertising in 1953, which went on to become India's number 01 advertising agency in 1973, with offices in Mumbai, Bengaluru, New Delhi and Pune. A trendsetter in its times Pratibha Advertising handled the portfolios of some of the big names in Indian commerce including Bajaj, Camel, LIC, Finolex, Bank of Maharashtra & Kirloskar. Mr. V. M. Palnitkar also started an interior design firm 'Indecor' in Pune. An avid landscape painter, he also picked out everyday scenes (a bustling temple square in Pune or the fisherwomen of Koliwada, Mumabi) as the subjects for his paintings.  He was a guide and mentor to his family, staff and friends. He died in 1999 in Pune, Maharashtra. 

Vidya Nag

VIDYA NAG is a native Bangalorean. Her formal education was in engineering, but her passion was art. Since childhood, she taught herself the techniques of using different media to explore and express this passion. Her art called her strongly enough that she decided to quit her job at WIPRO.

The series, Recollections: Aesthetic Sanctity is her first public presentation. These resulted from multiple visits to several Hoysala temples in Karnataka. Emphasizing details and the interplay of light and shadow Vidya has created that which captivated her in those monuments to Hoysala ingenuity.

Having found the joy in her art, Vidya plans to explore newer avenues.

Uday Palnitkar

UDAY PALNITKAR: born and brought up in Pune, Maharashtra, Uday graduated from the JJ school of arts in 1981. He started his interior design firm, Pratibha Creations in Bengaluru in the year 1989. Uday has been painting since he was child under his mentor and father Mr. V.M. Palnitkar.He has had 03 solo exhibitions and his work is  a part of a  number of corporate and private collections. 

Uday currently works from his studio in Bengaluru.
